The same is true if a companion is extremely emotional and uses little rational reasoning in his or her life decisions. I have known of women, or even occasionally of men, whose weakness was the compulsory purchasing of clothes and other items. They literally experienced an emotional high and fulfillment through shopping. At the end of each month their spouse sat at the kitchen table with bills from two to five different credit cards and tried to figure out how to break this spending spirit . Many divorces have been rooted in the lack of money necessary to cover the debts and high balances on credit cards caused by unwise spending habits. These debts can make it difficult to meet even the most basic needs of the family. All emotional feelings must be balanced with real facts. If we are all facts and no feelings, our personalities will be very boring to others. However, if we are all emotions, we may become a roller coaster of highs and lows depending on our circumstances or feelings at the moment, and we will be very difficult to live with and understand. Jesus is the perfect example of a person who balanced rational understanding with emotion and feelings. We read where Jesus was “moved with compassion . . . ” (Matt. 9:36, emphasis added), is “touched with the feeling of our infirmities,” and was “in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin” (Heb. 4:15, KJV , emphasis added).
