throwing out excessive baggage, and eventually the ship began breaking up near some quicksand off the coast of an island. Paul and the prisoners had to swim or float on broken boards to the shore. Before the shipwreck Luke, the writer of Acts, had written, “All hope that we would be saved was finally given up” (v. 20). When this great man of faith wrote that all hope was gone, you can rest assured that ship was going to sink! However, in the darkest part of the crisis an angel of the Lord appeared to Paul and told him the ship would be ravaged, but not one person would die. All would survive if they would follow the angel’s instruction (vv. 23–26). As the boat began breaking, there was an order to kill all the prisoners lest they escape (v. 42). I am certain Paul found it necessary to remind the Lord of the angelic prophecy that no lives would be lost! In the end not only did Paul and the entire crew and prisoners survive on an island, but also Paul won the entire island of barbaric people to Christ through the miracles he performed in Christ’s name (Acts 28). The first battle instruction is to recall and dwell on the promises from the Bible for your victory and the promises given through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that come through prayer and encouragement from believers. The last thing you should do is to forget the Word of the Lord and the prophetic words He has spoken to you! The purpose of God’s words is to give you a foundation on which to stand when everything is shaking and an anchor to outlast the storm you
