However, after His public baptism at age thirty, He immediately encountered Satan and was tempted for forty days (Luke 4:1–13). Notice that the battle began shortly after Christ’s baptism when the heavenly voice announced, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matt. 3:17; 4:1). Prophetic revelation can attract spiritual conflict, as prophetic revelation often deals with the future of a person or a nation. Through a vocal prophetic announcement the spiritual powers are alerted to the person’s assignment, as was the case in the announcement at the baptism of Christ. The fact that a battle often ensues when you receive revelation of your destiny, revealing God’s purpose for your life, must not intimidate you from receiving encouragement, edification, and direction through the written and spoken Word. God often makes His will known to bring you confidence and to impart a weapon for you to use in defeating the enemy’s questions thrown at your mind. W ARRING W ITH THE P ROPHECIES The purpose of a biblical promise or a prophetic word is to give you something solid to hold on to while you are waiting for the promise to come to pass. Timothy was reminded to war with the prophecies, to remind himself and others that it was a word from the Lord that brought him to where he was.
