This curse fever seems to creep into a believer’s mind following a terrible trial or tragedy. In recent years there has been a strong teaching in the body of Christ concerning generational curses . Varied explanations have been given for different types of sickness, difficulties, financial stress, and other anxieties believers encounter—the results of a curse they must break. Before answering the question, “Can a Christian be under a generational curse?”, we must understand that trouble and negative circumstances are simply a part of life. As it is written, “Man who is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble” (Job 14:1). Another verse states:

For affliction does not come from the dust, Nor does trouble spring from the ground;

Yet man is born to trouble, As the sparks fly upward.

—J OB 5:6–7 The Book of Job is an entire narrative dealing with the suffering of a righteous man. Had some ministers of today been living in Job’s day, they would have declared that Job was under some form of a generational curse instead of acknowledging that he was targeted by a satanic assignment. The Book of Job begins identifying Job as “the greatest of all the people of the East” (Job 1:3). He was blessed with seven sons and three daughters (v. 2), all of whom owned houses.
