yelled, “I saw a dark shadow in the window!” The music accompanying their commentary only added to the spooky atmosphere emitting from the television, and the grainy, almost 1930s-looking film with the slightly green tint helped create a more sinister appeal for the curious viewer. While most devout Christians and especially biblically astute believers ignore these so-called reality programs, millions of youth and occult curiosity seekers are lured into these alleged documentaries, remaining glued to their chairs for every noise and possible ghostly image presented. Eventually some viewers make their own efforts through mediums and psychics to consult the dead in an attempt to imitate their psychic star and hear from the “other side.” Often this contact is attempted in a setting with what is identified as an alleged haunted house . 1 W HAT I S A H AUNTED H OUSE ? A haunted house by definition is allegedly a home that is inhabited either permanently or occasionally by the disembodied spirits of a departed person. The spirit is often believed to have been a former inhabitant or a person who was familiar with the house or the property. What identifies a house as haunted is the strange and often unexplainable supernatural activity that allegedly occurs in or around the house. Some may believe only a small number of people believe in haunted houses. However, in a Gallup Poll conducted in 2005, it was revealed that 37 percent of Americans, 28 percent of Canadians, and 40 percent of the British citizens believe in the
