How to Leave Your Legacy Leave a spiritual legacy. When you depart, leave such a good name in the community that your children will be proud they carry that name. Those who leave a legacy are spoken well of, often many years after they have passed. A spiritual legacy is your history as viewed through His story, the story of your walk with the Lord and the blessings you experienced in life. I hear people tell stories of men and women of faith whom they never met, but these faithful names have lived on long after the people are gone. Make your footprints large enough for someone to follow, and make sure they go straight, not veering to the left or the right. Leave stories that can be passed down from generation to generation. When we take a vacation, my wife will say, “We’re making memories.” The stories my father told yesterday are the stories I will tell my children tomorrow. Every night before going to bed, my little girl will lie beside me, saying, “Dad, tell me a story.” Instead of the “big bad wolf,” I relate stories of personal experiences and blessings of God that I have seen. Leave plenty of pictures When a home burns down, the main item people miss are their pictures, which cannot be replaced. Keep them in a fireproof safe or file cabinet.
