blessing. God looks so far into the future that David wrote: He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac; and confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant. —Psalm 105:8–10, KJV David understood the covenant of Abraham and also received a special covenant promise from God. The Almighty made a powerful covenant to bless the descendants of David from generation to generation. Scripture indicates that David was a man after God’s own heart. He became Israel’s second king and captured the stronghold of Jebus (Jerusalem), making it Israel’s capital. David and his mighty men were also responsible for destroying a race of giants (1 Chron. 20:4–8). His love and passion for God brought great favor and wonderful covenant promises for David and his descendants who would follow after God: And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever. —2 Samuel 7:16 Then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised David your father, saying, “You shall not fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.”
