The Words We Speak Affirmation of a child is important to his or her mental and emotional development. Affirmation confirms the child is studying, making good decisions, and properly following instructions. Affirming occurs with your words. According to examples in the Torah, once a verbal blessing left the mouth of a righteous person, the blessing could only be reversed if the people (or nation) went into sin or disobedience to God. For example, when Balak, the king of Moab, hired the seer Balaam to speak a curse upon the nation of Israel, Balaam opened his mouth to curse, but a prophetic blessing of God’s favor flowed from his mouth.
