3. In the heavenly temple: In a.d. 70, the Jewish temple in Jerusalem was destroyed. However, John saw a heavenly temple with twenty-four elders and one hundred forty four thousand Jews from twelve tribes playing harps and singing new songs (Rev. 4:10; 14:1–3). Hebrew songs focus on God—His power, majesty, mercy, and ability. The songs are based upon the many stories in the Torah and Prophets.
