“The people of this state, in common with the people of this country, profess the general doctrines of Christianity, as a rule of their faith and practice; and to scandalize the author of these doctrines is not only, in a religious point of view, extremely impious, but, even in respect to the obligations to society, a gross vio lation of decency and good order . . . . The free, equal and undisturbed enjoyment of religious opinion, what ever it may be, and free and decent discussions on any religious subject, is granted and secured; but to revile, with malicious and blasphemous contempt, the religion professed by the whole communi ty, is an abuse of that right. Nor are we bound, by any expressions in the Constitution, as some have strangely supposed, either not to punish at all, or to punish indiscriminately, the like attacks on the religion of Mohammed or of the Grand Lama; and for this plain reason, that the case assumes that we are a Christian people, and that the morality of the country is deeply ingrafted upon Christianity, and not upon the doctrines or worship of these impostors.” (Emphasis and underlining added.)

GENESIS 9 AND God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them. Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. 2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air. upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. 3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. 4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood there of, shall ye not eat. 5 And surely your blood or your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man. 6 Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. 7 And you. be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abun dantly in the earth, and multiply therein.

LEVITICUS 17 10 And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people. 11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. 12 Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojoumeth among you eat blood. 13 And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust. 14 For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.

(9) Several times the Bible tells us not to eat blood. Food laws did not begin with the Levitical priesthood. In Genesis 9 we are told not to eat blood and that a murderer shall;

( ) a. Repent in dust and ashes. ( ) b. Be put to death.

(10) Are these two laws concerning food and murder part of a covenant God made with Noah and his descen dants?

( ) Yes.

( ) No. (Genesis 9:1-17)

(11) Are you a descendant of Noah?

( ) Yes.

( ) No.

(12) Therefore, Noah and his descendants (you and I) are to keep the laws God gave at that time.

( ) Agree.

( ) Disagree.

(13) In Deuteronomy 12:23-25 we read. “Thou shalt not eat it;. . . and with thy children after thee, when shalt thou shalt do. . . . .” ( ) a. Whatsoever is right in your own eyes. (Verse 8)

( ) b. That which is right in the sight of the Lord. (Verse 25)
