Biblical Eldership Church Leadership

Notes

8. widespread belief among ancient scholars that bishops and elders are two separate offices with bishops being superior to elders (priests) stands against the addition of the participle by later scribes. Elders (priests), many ancient churchmen believed, did not do the work of a bishop. (3) The word overseer is a participle, and this agrees with Peter’s frequent use of it. (4) Peter has already used the combination of shepherd and overseer in 2225. Num. 27216,]7; Jer. 2322; Ezek. 34211,12; Zech. 11216; Acts 20:28; 1 Pet. 2225; 522. .
