Chapter 9

DEFILEMENT OF GOD’S TEMPLE "Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work." II Timothy 2:19-21 Over and over throughout the New Testament, we are ex horted to cleanse ourselves, to purge our vessel, us. Our Lord Jesus Christ paid a terrible price on the cross so that we CAN "depart from iniquity" and become a "vessel unto honour." There are two areas in which this "purging" is needed. The first is in the area of our sin nature. We must bring our sin ful nature under control and put active sin out of our lives. Secondly, we must put all defilement out of the temple of God (us). I believe God’s temple is not only defiled by ac tive participation in sin, but also by the presence of demons. This brings us to the hotly debated question, "Can a Chris tian have a demon dwelling inside of him?" I believe scrip ture clearly shows us that he can. Demons cannot just hop into people whenever they want. We are hedged about so that they cannot get in unless we break a hole in the hedge of protection. (Figure 9-1)
