A Shift in Leadership
Chapter 6 6 Helps and Governments
hese two ministries are mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:28 after miracles and gifts of healings. They are important to the work of the Church. The helps ministry needs to be strong in an apostolic church to assist the leadership in carrying out the vision. There are people anointed in the area of helps. They have the grace to assist apostles in carrying out the apostolic mandate. They have authority to help. Their authority must be recognized and released. T Early in the development of our church, we saw the need to release the ministry of helps in the church. The teachings by Buddy Bell were especially helpful. He taught that this is a supernatural ability given by God to assist. These are supportive ministries that hold up the hand of the leaders. This is typified by Aaron and Hur lifting up the hands of Moses (Exodus 17:12). The apostles recognized the need for "helps" when they instructed the congregation to choose seven men to assist in ministering to the widows. This freed them to give themselves to prayer and the ministry of the Word (Acts 6:1-7). The result was an increase of the Word of God and a multiplication of disciples. The deacon's ministry is a helps ministry. This ministry needs to be strong in the local church. It has to be strengthened to carry the burden of the local church.
