ministry. Gatherings of apostles and prophets help us to meet and relate to others who are of similar spirit and faith. This strengthens leaders and helps them to continue without feeling lonely or isolated. I believe that day is coming when you will see these kinds of gatherings in every nation. God is challenging leaders in every nation to make this transition, and He is making the way for them to meet and relate to others of like faith. Establishing the Prophetic Ministry The other element found in the church at Antioch was the prophetic ministry. It was a combination of the teaching and prophetic ministries that helped birth the apostolic ministry. Local churches need to release and facilitate the prophetic ministry. The prophetic ministry should be a normal part of the ministry of the local church (1 Corinthians 14:29-32). Many apostolic leaders will be trained in a teaching or prophetic ministry before operating fully in an apostolic calling. There is a certain maturity needed to operate as an apostle. Barnabas and Paul are identified among the prophets and teachers before they were launched into their apostolic ministries. The calling to apostleship may be present, but the release comes after a season of preparation. Apostles need to be able to operate in strong prophetic and teaching ministries. If churches develop and strengthen these ministries, they will see a greater release of the apostolic. This is not to imply that everyone who teaches or prophesies will become an apostle.
