church becoming too pastoral at the expense of not being apostolic and prophetic. On the other hand, churches that are apostolic can be so without the expense of losing the pastoral. The apostolic ministry has the capacity to embrace the other gifts. The apostolic mentality is anointed by God to think largely and to incorporate all the gifts of God. The pastoral mind is not anointed in the same way. This is why leaders need to embrace an apostolic mentality and dimension if they are to have the capacity to embrace and walk in all that God is releasing. Staying in a pastoral mode will hinder them from partaking fully in what is being made available during this season of restoration. Making the transition will not eliminate the pastoral anointing in the local church. On the contrary, it will release it more by releasing others to function in their pastoral gifts. The word first in reference to apostles in First Corinthians 12:28 is the Greek word proton, meaning first in time, order, or rank. First also means principle or primary. The apostolic anointing should be the primary, foundational anointing of the Church. We are first and foremost sent by the risen Lord. As sent ones, we have a purpose and mission. The commission Jesus gave the church is an apostolic commission. This is why the apostolic anointing should be the dominant anointing of the Church. The word proton is also the root of the word prototype. We need to see prototype churches built that will be models for the 21 st century. These churches will have
